Southampton Town Pilot Program May Be Audited
August 27, 2009

New York State legislators, Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele Jr. and Senator Ken LaValle, along with several environmental groups, have asked New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli to audit the town's PILOT (Payment In Lieu of Taxes) program.

It has been suggested that land assessments used to calculate the PILOT amounts since 2003 have been improperly inflated.  If this is the case, the town will be obligated to reimburse the Community Preservation Fund for any overpayment of PILOT amounts.

Councilwoman Anna Throne-Holst has proposed two new local laws.  The first is intended to improve public safety by financially penalizing the owners of vehicles driven by unlicensed drivers.  According to Patrick Aube, President of the Southampton Town Patrolman's Benevolent Association, the number one traffic infraction in the town is for unlicensed operation. Yet, no penalty is imposed on the owner of the vehicle involved.  The second proposal, if adopted, would require establishments such as clubs and bars to pay for the cost of any required police presence.  Click here to read the full story at 27East.com.

Councilwoman Anna Throne-Holst Kicks Off Her Campaign For Supervisor

On Saturday, June 6, 2009, Councilwoman Anna Throne-Holst hosted her inaugural
campaign event in the race for Southampton Town Supervisor. The event was held at Agawam Park in Southampton Village.

Joined by her supporters Congressman Timothy Bishop and Assemblyman Fred Thiele,
she laid out her plan to improve town governance by addressing the issues, fixing what is clearly broken and restoring the confidence in town leadership.

Mostly importantly, she took the opportunity to  introduce her "exceptional" running mates:
Democratic Nominees for Town Council:
Sally Pope & Bridget Fleming
Democratic Nominees for Town Trustee:
Chris Garvey & Bill Pell
Democratic Nominee for Town Highway Superintendent:
Alex Gregor

The Councilwoman was urged by many, many of her constituents to run for this position, and she stated that she is honored to do so at their behest.

The coming months will surely be intense as she aims to become the first supervisor to represent the Democratic Party in Southampton Town in more than 20 years. But, in her words, she is "ready and willing to accept the challenge."
